In His time

So I am going to talk about something that most people, including me, just don’t talk about… or at least in my world they don’t talk about it… I have had two miscarriages. This time of year is a bit hard for me now. The first baby was due on 12/25/08. Andy and I went in at 13 weeks for a routine appointment and the baby had lost its heartbeat somewhere in week 11. I had to go in for surgery on June 25, 2008 to have a D&C. I became a hermit for about two weeks and lived like a zombie for awhile after that first loss, but it’s funny how God works out his own plans for you and they aren't always what or when you expect them , my sweet Lucy was born on June 25, 2009. I think the first time you are pregnant you're blissfully unaware about all that can go wrong. The second miscarriage happened at home at about 7 weeks in August of 2008. After that second time I told Andy I would never ever go through that pain again. But again it’s funny how God works… Andy’s aunt worked at a fertility clinic and she introduced us to the kindest doctor in the entire world. He told me not to get pregnant until he had run tests… Yep, 2 days later I took a pregnancy test and it was positive! Andy was still asleep when I woke him by asking, "Does this say positive?" We were about to leave to go to Europe the next day and they fit me into their busy schedules that day and put me on five different medications. That trip was just what I needed to take my mind off of the agonizing wait to see if the medications would work. Well the rest is history… (Although it was a very long 9 months). I am so glad I did not give up! So there it is. Something very few people know about me. But I think it is important to talk about. Just something to make you think and, perhaps, give you hope.

The Night Before Christmas

Andy and I started the search for the perfect Night Before Christmas book a long time ago and finally agreed on the actual book on Christmas Eve. It was a great copy with all kinds of notes to Santa, paper snowflakes, and even Santa’s passport on the inside. She loved reading (actually she tried to eat it) with daddy even though it was way past her bed time. We wear coordinating outfits Christmas Eve and this year was no exception with a red and white toile theme.

Trolley Ride

We took Lucy to Callaway Gardens for the Christmas light trolley ride. It got off to a slow start with about an hour wait in line but it was worth it. I had no idea she could move her head like that! She craned her neck up and down to catch every glimpse. We brought Christmas cookies and hot cider on the trolley with us and enjoyed singing Christmas carols at the top of our lungs. She was asleep the second we put her into the car.

Deck the Halls

I love to decorate and Christmas is no exception. Our Christmas tree theme used to be black bears when we were in college and first married I actually tried to go with things my husband liked! However, now a wide variety of birds have slowly roosted in our tree. Last year my husband came home to find new birds types on the tree almost every week. The tree now consists of what he calls Jamaican birds (they are red and yellow) and attack birds which are life size cardinals. The bears are still on there just kind of hidden by the swarm in the back! Lucy's tree is a new addition this year it took me a week to get it looking at least a little like what I wanted. It has crystals, silver and pink balls and feathers in it. I bought 3 different toppers for it and finally went with a star that I bought to go in her chandelier. The front of the house ended up being an explosion of bows. Andy was on patrol the night I put them out and he called asking if the bows had spawned like rabbits. Every year we always cut out paper snowflakes by the dozen that we put up in all of the windows, hopefully this will still be a fun tradition when Lucy is older. Overall, our house embodies the Christmas spirit I hope (at least until Andy has to take it all down!).

Lucy's Boyfriend

Before Christmas we went to ride the Pink Pig at Lenox Mall and met up with some friends and family. Lucy was introduced to Wyatt, a good friend from ASA's grandson, and boy did they hit it off! Although, seeing the two of them together truly showed us how petite our little princess is. Wyatt could play middle linebacker for the Falcons in a few years! Lucy loved the ride and even sat in her seat just like a big girl. After the ride Andy and I finished up some Christmas shopping. It was a fun outing and the beginning of an enjoyable Christmas tradition!
